The Innovation-based Rise of Great Powers and Their Technological Innovation Capability

—Experience of World Science and Technology Great Powers and China's Development Path

Abstract: From the perspective of how world scientific and technological powers rose up through innovation and participated in strong competition under all kinds of situations, this article systematically analyzed in detail the historical background, environmental conditions, technical factors and social support base that a country must rely on in order to become powerful, and combined with the characteristics of the current times and the international trend, concluded that after the mid-20th century period, the rise of a country does not necessarily lead to hegemony, hegemony runs against people's wishes and the principles and basis followed by international relations. For the sake of clearly and explicitly confirming today's world science and technology innovation mania and grim global challenges, this article introduced how the western major scientific and technological powers built on their national strength by virtue of scientific and technologic innovation, how they improved their international status and influence and their strategic orientation of turning. Through a number of examples and facts, this article intends to provide reference to various circles of Chinese society.
